Therefore God gave them up to vile impurity in the lusts of their hearts, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
Romans 1:24 (NASB)
Why would God choose to deliver men to impurity, to the lust of their hearts as Paul mentions? Doesn't such a decision go against his will which is “that all be saved and come to the knowledge of his son”? The next verse gives us the answer why God chose to do this: "They choose to serve the creature rather than the creator".
We all want to find something to focus our attention on, something that makes us feel important and gives our lives a real meaning. This thing can be a job, a promotion, a social circle, our family and even our children. But the problem is not there. The real problem is that when this thing is gone, we get to the point where we have no reason to live anymore. Without knowing it, this thing becomes our idol or, in a way, a god.
When we look or direct our attention to the things that we believe can bring us the joy, hope, and happiness that only God can give us, we often hit the wall of despair. Because they end up breaking our hearts. They are all gods counterfeited by our carnal desires and lusts.
If there's one thing I want to tell you today, there is nothing that God created, whatever it is, that can take the place of God to satisfy the desires of your heart. Look at to the creator rather than the creature.
