This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:3-4 (NABRE)
Some Christians believe that salvation is conditional. They are convinced that they must make efforts, sometimes even sacrifices, to secure their salvation with God. Others believe that the only way to keep and protect their salvation is to lead a holy and sinless life, otherwise they will lose it.
Certainly, the Bible teaches us to work for the glory of God, to seek His face and the sanctification which will make us see our Saviour. But that does not tell us that this is what will secure our salvation. On the contrary, it is because we are saved in Jesus Christ that we must, by our way of living and being an example for unbelievers, give glory to God. What you do for God is what He has put on your heart. It is He who leads you, by His spirit within you, in accomplishing what He has called you to do.
Do not think that your efforts will put a special seal with your name on salvation. God initiated it, Jesus Christ accomplished it and the Holy Spirit assures its continuity by convincing us every day of the assurance that we have in the Father, because He knows that this is what pleases Him.: That all be saved and come to the knowledge of this truth.
