At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike.
Matthew 11:25 (NLT)
Speaking to the religious men of His day who believed in their own abilities and spirituality, Jesus described two types of believers. The first groups together those who consider themselves more intelligent and wiser than others. The second, those who, in their humility and spirit of dependence, consider themselves as children who need to be taught and guided.
Those of the first type become proud and exalt themselves. They believe that they are superior to others in the eyes of God. This is what prevents them from receiving God's revelation. Those who behave like children, open their hearts to receive more of God. They accept their ignorance and admit that they need God. To these, God reveals His will and the desire of His heart.
The proud and arrogant always live in ignorance which is the reward for their attitude. However, those who are humble and know that they have no merit, God opens Himself to them and gives them more revelation. Avoid falling into the trap of the first type who exalts their faith and compares themselves to others because you have a special gift. You risk losing the best of God, His revelation which is undeserved favor.
May the grace and the peace of God be with you all.
