Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
Romans 13:14 (NIV)
Maxime is appreciated and respected in his church for his reserved manner. He speaks little, but when he does, it is always to teach, encourage, and motivate others. During the summer, a recreational activity is organized. While all the other youth were dressed casually, Maxime wore more formal attire. When asked why he was so formal, he replied that even when he is relaxing, he is always ready to go anywhere to share the good news of the Gospel.
Maxime's story may be disturbing to some: the fact that he appears in formal attire at a recreational activity. However, if we consider his perspective, we understand that his main concern is to be ready to be present wherever the opportunity arises, especially if he has to share the Gospel. The contrast between Maxime and what the verse teaches us is that as Christians, we must not follow the world, which seeks more to please others and satisfy our own lusts. We must clothe ourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ.
What does Paul mean by "Clothe Yourselves With the Lord Jesus Christ"? Paul asks us to walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, follow His example, and apply His teachings to our lives. The world offers us all sorts of pretensions and lusts to turn us away from our faith and become like them. Verse 12 warns us that the day is coming, we must put aside the deeds of darkness. No matter how strong your faith, the enemy always seeks to bring you down. Draw near, therefore, to Christ so that you do not lose the reward that is reserved for you.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
