I struck you and every work of your hands with scorching wind, mildew, and hail; yet you did not come back to Me, declares the Lord.
Haggai 2:17 (NASB)
When an incident happens to us, our first reaction is to try to find out the cause in order to remedy it immediately. It is when we cannot find the solution, even if we know the cause, that we turn to God for help. As a Christian, our first response should be to go directly to God in prayer and explain the situation to Him. It is certain that He will not hesitate to help us if we enter His presence in an attitude of fear and sincerity.
Often, when we make bad decisions that distance us from God, He uses different means to call us to order or reveal our bad decision to us. He always uses a tender way of addressing us. But, when we ignore Him, He hits us hard to make us feel that He cares about us. This is what happened to the people of Judas, the bad attitude of many of them totally tainted the entire community. God had to hit them hard to bring them back to Him.
After their return from Babylon, instead of focusing on rebuilding God's temple and serving Him, the people devoted themselves to building their houses, thus neglecting God's place in their midst. For this, they lost God's blessings and protection, because in His eyes it was a sin that needed to be punished. However, God did not abandon them, He chose to chastise them with love to encourage them to return to Him. If something or a situation has taken you away from God, know that you can always come back to Him, because He will never let you down. If He has to chastise you to bring you back, He will do it because He loves you.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
