He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wounds you are healed.
1 Peter 2:24 (NTL)
A place that brings comfort—a place that offers consolation—is precisely what we all seek. Whether it be the poor man who has nowhere to lay his head, or the wealthiest man who has no time to sleep, we are all in search of that place of tranquility where we can pour out our anxieties and find relief from our suffering. Yet, everyone believes they find this place in whatever interests them and satisfies their desires. The musician finds comfort in his music; the painter finds comfort in his art. But is that truly the kind of comfort they are seeking?
The consolations of the world may offer us temporary relief—relief that lasts only as long as they allow us to forget our problems or distract us from what frightens us. True comfort—the kind that heals every anxiety, whatever it may be—is the comfort that Jesus brought us when He bore the cross upon His shoulders. He suffered; and although we can only glimpse the magnitude of His suffering—even as a minor injury causes us pain—imagine the lashes of the whip, the crown upon His head, and the nails that fastened Him to the cross. Yet, He chose to endure this suffering for our complete healing—which is none other than God's forgiveness for all our sins.
Is this not the true comfort we should be seeking? Do you truly believe that the painter's art can bring him this healing? That the musician's music can offer him this total restoration? And what about you? Do you believe that the very thing to which you turn to escape your worries will truly set you free? Not in the slightest! Therefore, the only place where you can be completely healed of every affliction—and begin a new life, filled with joy and true comfort—is at the feet of Jesus: the One who bore your sins in His own body. Do not let this grace slip away. Pause for a moment to catch your breath, then turn to Jesus, who is waiting there to heal you.
May the grace and peace of God be with you.
