Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)
God never fails to keep His promises. Even when we fail to obey Him and live according to His precepts, He remains faithful and does not go back on His word. The people of Israel, whom He had chosen to be His people, were unable to live according to God's precepts. They were the only people to benefit from God's favor and enjoy His protection, and yet they turned away from God to worship other gods. In His love and compassion, God decided to create another path to bring them back to Him, the path of the cross.
If the chosen people walked in darkness, far from God, what about the other nations? The people of Israel proved unworthy of God's grace and blessings; they were no better than the other nations. Therefore, in His plan of salvation and restoration, God chose to turn to us, the Gentiles, to bring us back to Him as well and allow us to enjoy His grace. A flawless promise. For this plan to be fulfilled, a child had to be born, live among men, and experience their suffering, weaknesses, and temptations.
As a sign of His promise to humanity, God used the prophet Isaiah to announce what was going to happen and how it would happen. It was a message for all the nations of the earth, even though the one who proclaimed it had no idea of the magnitude of his message. Today, you and I can call God our God, our Father, just like the people of Israel, because the child of promise who was to come to reconcile God with His people did not only have God's people in mind, but He also thought of us. Isn't it wonderful to know that God's plan was a plan of inclusion, designed to bring us closer to Him through His Son?
May God's grace and peace be with you.
