Which do you choose? Should I come with a rod to punish you, or should I come with love and a gentle spirit?
1 Corinthians 4:21 (NLT)
While God asks us to watch over one another, He does not rule out the possibility of sometimes being firm in our corrections. The goal is not to punish, but to lead to repentance those who are obstinate and refuse to conform to the teachings of the Word. Disobedience always implies a departure from God's path. That is why it is important to know what strategy to adopt when it comes to exhorting someone prone to sin.
Not everyone accepts rebukes. Even with gentleness, it is always difficult to convince them. Prioritizing the salvation of their souls over their emotions, Paul was not concerned about the reaction of the Corinthian Christians. This led him to give them a choice: if they persisted in sin, he would not hesitate to be severe. But if they repented, he would act with love and gentleness.
No one is perfect; We are all prone to sin. That is why God asks us not only to confess our sins, but also to watch over one another. It is by watching over one another that we can avoid sin. When your pastor corrects you, it is not to humiliate you, but to help you return to God before it is too late. Your attitude toward correction will determine whether he adopts a gentle or firm approach. Have a repentant heart; do not ignore your pastor's corrections.
May the grace and peace of God be with you.
