A Spiritual Thirst

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

John 4:14 (KJV)

After some time spent walking under the sun in the summer season, often the thirst we have does not leave us time to think about the quality of the water we drink. As much as we have the impression that the water is clean and that it is protected, we drink it to quench our thirst without asking any questions. The freshness that it brings to our throat is like giving us such satisfaction that we have no desire to stop.

If the natural water that we drink to quench our physical thirst can give us such satisfaction, what about the one that Jesus offers us. The Samaritan woman did not know that she needed living water that would quench much more than her physical thirst until Jesus revealed it to her. At first, she did not understand what Jesus meant, but after grasping the meaning of Jesus' explanation, she wanted to know the source of this living water to draw abundantly from it. The thirst she had was for God's forgiveness and salvation found in Jesus Christ.

Today, you and I need not only to drink of this water but also to cling to the source which is the word of God. If the Samaritan woman did not know that the source was right in front of her to draw in quantity, you have the word that reveals to you not only the source but the power of this source in our lives. Drink the water that will quench your thirst and that will spring up in you until eternity.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
