Adopt the Right Attitude

I lift up my eyes to the mountains where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV)

Faced with specific needs, there are certain attitudes that we naturally adopt physically. These same attitudes can just as easily be adopted in the spiritual when we are faced with situations requiring a spiritual attitude. We naturally respond to physical needs without any instruction, because we know it is the best possible attitude.

When we are thirsty, we drink water. When we are hungry, we eat. When we are sick, we take medicine or go to see a doctor. The attitude is that we know exactly what we need to do to meet these physical needs. However, when it comes to solving certain problems, instead of adopting the right attitude and turning to God, we persist in finding the solution ourselves.

You cannot quench your thirst yourself, but you know that you must drink the water that can satisfy it for you. It is this basic principle that the author of this psalm understood in the spiritual. In his distress, he could not find the solution, but he knew what attitude to adopt. He looked up towards the mountains to know where his help would come from. His attitude was to turn to the Lord instead of struggling on his own. What you do in the natural can also be adopted in the spiritual. Just learn to have the right attitude.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
