At the Bottom of the Ladder

He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.

Luke 16:10 (NKJV)

Following a car accident, a company director decided to designate one of his employees to take his place in managing the firm's internal affairs. He summoned everyone who aspired to a higher position to a meeting. Five employees appeared before him—among them, the most unassuming member of the staff, whose job consisted of data entry and analysis to ensure accuracy. Each of them believed himself to be the most suitable candidate for the upcoming promotion.

The director announced that he would be away for three months and asked who among them would be willing to handle incoming client calls. None of them answered. They were waiting for the *real* question: who would replace him during his absence? The employee in charge of data entry, however, answered in the affirmative; he even added that he would be available to visit clients in person whenever possible. This was exactly what the director wanted to hear. He dismissed all the others and entrusted the position to him for the duration of his absence.

Often, God calls us to a mission far greater than anything we had ever hoped for. Yet, because we feel too elevated and full of our own importance—due to our knowledge or professional status—we are reluctant to start at the very bottom and attend to small tasks. We covet a position where everyone will be eager to associate with us. If God places you in a situation where you must expect only small things, it is because He wishes to test your steadfastness and motivation. Never view such tasks as unimportant. You must always start at the bottom of the ladder.

May the grace and peace of God be with you.
