Enduring the Suffering of Others

For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.

1 Peter 2:20 (NKJV)

Whether we do good or evil, there are always consequences. They can be disastrous if we have done harm, or beneficial if we have done good. No one likes to suffer the consequences of their mistakes; we would prefer that life spare us. However, consequences are sometimes a divine punishment to correct us, to remind us that our actions or attitudes harm others. Therefore, there is no reason to believe that the consequences of our mistakes are a divine test.

On the other hand, if your suffering results from the ingratitude of others after you have done good to them wholeheartedly, God will grant you His favor, protecting you from their malice and ingratitude. It is this suffering that attracts God's attention, for when others cause you suffering despite your good deeds, God will not abandon you. Even if you must endure their indifference for a time, be strong and courageous. In due time, God will raise you up and manifest His glory through you.

Remember to do good by helping others. If they are hungry, give them food; if they are naked, clothe them; if they have nowhere to sleep, welcome them. Above all, don't expect them to do the same for you. Act for the glory of God. It is your good deed that will testify to the love of Christ in you. Do not be afraid of the consequences of your good deeds, for the grace of God will fill you with far greater joy and happiness.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
