Enemy of God

For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins.

Hebrews 10:26 (NASB)

He who, driven by circumstances, steals the property of others is not necessarily a thief. He can always be reprimanded for his act, but that does not mean that he must bear the title of thief for the rest of his life. However, he who takes pleasure in committing the act while knowing that what he is doing is wrong, deserves to be punished so that he will not do it again. He must also be required to restore the stolen property.

Indirectly, this is the same approach that the author takes when speaking of those who sin willfully. By this, he implies that they know the truth, namely the word of God concerning sin, but this does not prevent them from rejecting the grace of God and committing sin after sin. Continually sinning puts us in a position of no return to the point that the sacrifice of the cross can no longer cover us before the face of God.

Jesus Christ gave His life for you in order to free you from the condemnation of sin. It is this sacrifice that has cleansed you in God’s sight and allows you to enter His presence at all times. This is the grace of God in Jesus Christ. But if you continue to sin willfully, even though God’s forgiveness is always available, the result will be terrible for you. By intentionally committing sin even though you know the truth, you become an enemy of God.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
