God Is Your Strength

And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against Me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

Judges 7:2 (KJV)

The Midianites believed so much in their power and strategy in battle that they were proud of it. They attacked all the other nations, thinking that none of them could defeat them on the battlefield. They were resilient, heartless and merciless, nothing could stop them from going to war. According to the Bible, they were strong and they considered their strength as their god.

However, despite all the tactical advantages and powers they had, they could not defeat the army of Israel. Their pride is what made them lose because God did not like their high self-esteem and the belief they had in their strength to win victory over the other nations. To bring them down to the lowest level, God asked Gideon to drastically reduce the number of soldiers of Israel, from 10,000 to 300 to fight this enemy.

Sometimes you run away from the enemy that stands before you. By focusing on what your eyes see, you forget God’s promises to make you strong and fight for you. This is a fact that David knew, that’s why he wasn’t afraid to face Goliath on the battlefield. When you see your enemy coming towards you, don’t worry about his strength, tactics and threats, trust in God who will give you the strength you need to defeat your enemy.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
