I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Psalm 146:2 (NIV)
How was David different from you and me? Just like us, he was a sinner, he had his human weaknesses, he has had ups and downs in his life, he had many enemies; even his own son wanted to kill him for his crown. You will undoubtedly tell me that God had chosen and anointed him. In this sense, you will be right. But that's not what made him different from us.
There is one crucial point in David's life that we must consider, that is God was at the center of his life. This is the point that makes all the difference. I believe this psalmist is no different from David in this context. When we read the entire chapter and the four others that follow, we see that it does not refer to any personal request. He focuses entirely on God, who alone is worthy of his praise.
Have you ever prayed this type of prayer to God? A prayer where you put aside all your personal needs and all your emotions to give praise to God. It is an attitude of worship that David had in his personal relationship with God. He always praised God even in the midst of his distress. Just like the psalmist and David, I encourage you to fully commit yourself to praising God with all your heart. It is in the midst of your praise to God that your needs will be met, for He is a faithful God.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
