The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
1 John 2:17 (NIV)
Everything the world lives for, everything the world seeks will disappear. Not only is the world will pass away, but its desires also will pass away. There is nothing in this world that will last forever. Everything is temporary. Everything that people cherish in the world will perishe without exception.
What can the world offer you that will last? Nothing. Therefore, there is no point in clinging to material possessions or earthly status. In the end, none of these earthly things will matter. However, those who know God, love him, serve him, and do his will shall have eternal life. So rather than investing in earthly possessions, invest your time in the Lord by spending time in His words; develop a personal relationship with Him, seek who He is, make Him your priority. Because God has promised us that just as he is eternal, so will those who pursue him. The key to having eternal life is to do the will of God.
What is the will of God? First and foremost it is to believe in Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord. John 6:29 tells us that "The work of God is this: to believe in him whom God has sent." By looking at Jesus on the cross, anyone can receive forgiveness and enter into eternal life.
So today, let us enter the presence of God, asking Him to open our spiritual eyes to receive an eternal perspective and help us not to love the temporary things of the world, but to love Him with all our heart.
