O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, That you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?
Jeremiah 4:14 (NKJV)
Most of the messages and warnings in the Old Testament are addressed directly to the people of Israel, for God's laws were intended to teach them to purify themselves and walk in holiness. However, even though we Christians today live under the dispensation of grace, these same laws to which the people were to submit serve as moral laws for us so that we reflect the image of Christ, as God intended from creation.
Just as it was for Israel, this warning is also addressed to us so that we purify our hearts of any evil intentions or thoughts they might harbor. Most often, it is these thoughts and intentions, contrary to God's Word, that prevent us from entering into a perfect relationship with Him. Sometimes, they leave us perplexed, uncertain about what course of action to take. We find ourselves caught between good and evil. Some people have received the Gospel message, but the hatred they feel toward those who have wronged them in the past prevents them from opening their hearts to Jesus.
You have a destiny that God prepared for you long before you were born; don't lose sight of it because of negative thoughts. Although difficult to bear, Christ endured the pain of the blows He received to reconcile you with God. He did not hold a grudge against those who mistreated Him, for He had a greater purpose in mind: the salvation of humanity, including you and me. Be at peace with yourself and with God; cleanse your heart of anything that might hinder your spirituality, and fully experience the grace He has granted you.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
