My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?”
Psalm 42:3 (NKJV)
Very often, when we encounter difficulties, we ask ourselves the question: "Lord, why me?" We think that God answers the prayers of others and completely ignores us. Because we see others laughing and rejoicing, we believe that everything is fine for them, that we are the only ones suffering. We think of the sins we had committed to give a valid reason for our suffering.
Let's consider David, he was God's anointed, no one could touch him because he had His protection. As a king, he had everything he wanted, wealth, power, palaces, subjects at his disposal. As he states in Psalm 23, he lacked nothing because the Lord was his shepherd. Yet, he says in this verse that his tears were his food. His suffering was so great, that he was constantly asked where is his God? Put yourself in his shoes for a moment, you have everything to be happy and yet it is your tears that are your food.
Even in the midst of his suffering, David’s soul longed for God. He thirsted for His presence with all his heart. David’s situation tells us that no matter how much faith we have or how deep our relationship with God is, we are not exempt from the suffering and pain of life. As long as we live in this mortal body, we will always be exposed to all kinds of trials and difficulties. When you feel depressed, do not run away from difficulties, but say as David did, “I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
