The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
John 14:17 (NKJV)
At Pentecost, humanity experienced an unimaginable experience: the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Although Jesus promised the disciples to give them the Holy Spirit after His departure, they missed the point until the experienced this powerful presence within them. Today, we Christians continue to see the presence of the Holy Spirit in action, even if some do not believe it because they cannot feel it as they expect.
What did Jesus mean when he spoke of the Spirit of Truth? Some think He meant that we would know everything He knows. In a way, we would have all knowledge. We can answer yes to that, but the truth we will know and fully understand is the truth about Him and about God's plan. This is why the world cannot receive the Holy Spirit: it does not believe in Jesus to receive Him as their Savior. You and I, who acknowledge our sins and turn to Jesus for forgiveness, are the ones who can receive the Holy Spirit.
However, receiving the Holy Spirit is not an emotional experience. It has nothing to do with the joy or tears one feels when receiving His presence. Rather, it is a revelation of the knowledge of Christ as you have never known Him before. The Holy Spirit will guide your decisions and reveal things to you as you study the Bible for your spiritual growth. It is then that you will know that He dwells within you and that you will know Him.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
