The Wheat and the Weeds

Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and at the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather up the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn.”
Matthew 13:30 (NASB)
In elementary school, a young boy used to sit in the front row. Even if he arrived late, he always managed to avoid ending up any further back than the third row. Yet, his best friend always sat in the last two rows. One day, when his teacher asked him why he was so intent on being in the front row, he replied that his father had always taught him that the students in the front row were invariably the teachers' favorites and, consequently, had a better chance of succeeding in school because the teachers paid them more attention.
The young boy's words may have been hard to hear, but—when placed in their proper context—they held a profound truth. A classroom is always filled with students studying and interacting; yet, at the end of the year, those who prioritized their studies are the ones who will have succeeded. As for the others—those who prioritized pleasure—they will eventually come to regret it bitterly. The situation is much the same within the Church. Many claim to be Christians—praying and participating in Church activities—and yet, not everyone places true importance on God's will and His precepts.
In this passage, the "weeds" represent those who attend Church but whose hearts are not truly turned toward God, while the "wheat" represents true believers. Like the wheat, faithful Christians will be gathered into the Kingdom of God; and like the weeds, those who merely feign belief will be reserved for judgment. Do not be content to be a mere member of the Church; Be an authentic Christian—a true child of God—so that, on the Day of Judgment, you do not end up like the weeds, burned at the time of the harvest—that is, on the day of Christ's return. Be an example to those around you, for the glory of God, so that those who have gone astray may become that good grain which will be gathered into God's barn.
May the grace and peace of God be with you.
