A Bad Influence

His wife said to him, “Do you still retain your integrity? Curse God and die!”

Job 2:9 (HCSB)

We often meet people for whom we sacrifice ourselves to help them through difficult times and who, after a discussion, reject us and blame us, forgetting the good we have done for them. The reaction of Job’s wife in his situation is an example of the attitude of many Christians who seek and love God only for His blessings. When all difficult times come, they act exactly like Job’s wife.

The wife who was supposed to help her husband in such a situation did the complete opposite. This is what often happens when disaster strikes us, the enemy uses the influence of our loved ones who are weak in faith to cause us to deny God and distance ourselves from Him. Job’s response to his wife was a proof of his faith and complete trust in God even in the face of what could seem to be a punishment from God: “You speak like a fool. We accept good from God, and shall we not also accept evil?”

This is exactly what Satan seeks to do to you today, use your problems to separate you from God, especially when he knows that like Job, you have a firm faith and assurance in God’s promises to care for you. Job’s wife knew that her husband was righteous and upright before God, instead of seeing this as a reason to encourage him to seek God’s help, she chose to push him to curse God and die. One thing is for sure, God never abandons His children adrift, do not worry when He says nothing, because His silence can be His way of leading you to grow in faith.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
