A Call to Repentance

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

James 4:8 (NIV)

In this passage, James calls believers to leave their lives of sin and enter into a new relationship with God. His call continues to ring in our ears as if nothing had changed since his day. To live in perfect harmony with God is to turn away from our sins, submit to His will, and have intimacy with Him. The best way to achieve this goal is to draw closer to Him through Jesus Christ.

James gives us two imperatives to follow in order to draw closer to God and for Him to draw closer to us in return. First, cleanse our hands, which means admitting our sins, confessing them, and never returning to them again. Second, purify our hearts, which means no longer harboring negative thoughts in our hearts, no longer lusting after the things of this world that draw us away from God. In short, James calls us to repent and seek the face of God.

Being an indecisive Christian means no longer knowing the importance of your decision to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. The Christian life, like any other aspect of life, has its ups and downs. Sometimes you think that God has turned His back on you because of your sins. Know that God is still waiting for you and wants to forgive you to develop a deep relationship with you. But, you must be truly convinced of your choice to become His child.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
