A Decision of the Heart

The Lord lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked down to the ground.
Psalm 147:6 (NKJV)
Some people are convinced that being humble is a sign of weakness and cowardice. They believe that by being humble, we open the door to manipulators and profiteers who want to take advantage of us. What they don't understand is that humility is more a sign of wisdom and discernment. A humble person takes the time to reflect before acting. They can also decide not to react to a situation, when everyone else would react without the slightest hesitation.
Humility is more a decision of the heart than a quality. This is why God pays special attention to those who reach this point. He knows that many, especially the wicked, will mistreat them and make them suffer. One does not become humble by becoming a Christian or by having faith in God. One becomes humble by living according to God's Word. The Holy Spirit will accompany you throughout your journey. When was the last time you accepted a slight without reacting, even though you had every reason to explode?
Jesus Christ taught His disciples to turn the other cheek. Some take this literally. Depending on the circumstances, each person can decide literally whether or not to turn the other cheek. But by saying to turn the other cheek, Jesus is asking us to avoid conflict with those who wish us harm and attack us from all sides to bring us down. We must simply entrust the situation to God, who will protect us from the traps and threats of the wicked. God will use your humility to lift you up, but the wicked will see their downfall.
May God's grace and peace be with you all.
