A God Without Limits

Tell Zerubbabel governor of Judah that I am going to shake the heavens and the earth.

Even when the Bible recounts God’s mighty acts and we have faith in Him, some Christians continue to limit divine power to the spiritual and emotional realms—such as protecting us from danger, forgiving our sins, inspiring good deeds, and transforming rebellious hearts. When it comes to physical matters, they view them as belonging to the Old Testament era, implying that God no longer intervenes in natural disasters, physical healings, or events of that nature.

Why do we limit God, and why can we not see Him as the biblical figures did? Is it because God has changed, or because He has no reason to perform such acts? The Bible teaches us that God does not change; He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The real problem lies in the fact that, unlike the men of the Old Testament, we turn to God for our own gratification. We want to satisfy all kinds of passions. We do not turn to God for who He is, but rather for what we expect from Him. Yet, this same God, capable of shaking heaven and earth, remains the same today.

It is this restrictive mindset that prevents us from seeing God’s glory manifested through wonders and miracles. We think He *can* do it, but we do not truly believe it. In other words, we limit God’s capabilities based on our own human limitations. If God could raise Christ from the dead, there is no illness He cannot heal nor any financial problem He cannot solve. The problem is that, despite what you think about Him, you do not truly believe. God can shake heaven and earth to come to your aid, but you must believe that He exists and that He has the power to accomplish far more than you can imagine. God has no limits, unless He decides to limit Himself.
