And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will have you become fishers of people.”
Mark 1:17 (NASB)
A young man worked at a library that changed its stock of used and unprinted books every five years. These books were placed in a storage area where employees could take them if they wished. Some were also given to thrift stores that would resell them at a low price. The young man saw beyond simply giving them to employees and thrift stores to resell. He proposed that these books be distributed to schools and churches to be used for greater purposes. He himself took some on interesting topics to educate his friends
His proposal resulted in two schools starting their own libraries for their students and a church for its members. He developed a book club in his neighborhood and always presents topics that attract many people to his club. He gave the library a greater purpose, that of supporting these two schools and this church. He also gave these books a purpose, instead of ending up on shelves, they serve to instruct and educate those who use them.
Jesus did the same thing with Peter and his friends, He gave them a new purpose. He didn’t change what they were doing, but He gave them a greater purpose, that of becoming fishers of men rather than fishers of fish for men. God wants to do the same with you, He has a greater purpose for you than the one you are holding on to and not letting go of. It is time for you to identify that purpose and embrace it to serve God in another dimension.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
