For we are slaves; yet in our bondage our God has not abandoned us, but has extended favor to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us reviving to erect the house of our God, to restore its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.
Ezra 9:9 (NASB)
I often meet people and even Christians who feel totally devastated and disoriented by the situation of their life. Some end up falling into drug addiction, alcohol and become slaves to all kinds of toxic substances that can have harmful effects on their life. It is at this point in their life that they will say that their life is in ruins.
Some end up in drug rehabilitation centers. Others, becoming a burden to their family, end up on the street. They no longer seek a solution because for them, they have reached the finish line of their hope. But one thing is certain, is that no one can say that it is over until God has said His last word. He always has a plan to rebuild us and restore our life. This verse can speak of the slavery of the Jews and the rebuilding of the temple of Jerusalem, but it is also an image of what God can do with our ruin to give us a new life.
Depending on the situation you are going through right now, your life may also seem to be in ruins. Circumstances that you did not expect, troubles that result from your decisions, family conflicts that you can no longer avoid and that devastate your family. You can trust that your heavenly Father will not leave you devastated. He understands your troubles and wants to restore you and make you rise from your ashes. He can repair the ruins and give you a better life. You can trust Him and put yourself in His hands, because as the Bible says, He is the true repairer of the breach.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
