And they, having become callous, have given themselves up to indecent behavior for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.
Ephesians 4:19 (NASB)
Often, some Christians think that spirituality depends on how others perceive or describe them. If they are told, "Here is a man or woman of God, filled with the Spirit," they consider themselves as such and continue to lead a life different from what others perceive, a life contrary to God's will. But what they don't understand is that spirituality is far more connected to what God truly sees in us. However, as long as they can tell themselves that God knows their heart and that they love God, they are satisfied with their lifestyle.
In this chapter of the Epistle to the Ephesians, Paul defends a different point of view by providing concrete evidence, distinguishing the behavior of pagans from that of those who have known Christ. Paul precisely describes what happens in the life of someone who does not know God: they are alienated from the life that God gives in Jesus Christ and become ignorant of the truth. At this stage, they no longer feel a sense of belonging with those who were close to them. Often, they choose to act this way so that no one will confront them about their attitude, which represents a radical departure from God's path.
Consequently, by distancing themselves from others, they find themselves alone and commit sins of all kinds. The more sins they commit, the more satisfied they feel, and the further they move away from God. As Paul so aptly put it: "That is not the way you learned Christ." Do not become like those who, wanting to live according to the desires of their hearts, become greedy. What Jesus Christ offers you is eternal life. What He taught is the way of God. Today, you have the opportunity to no longer live like the world. It is up to you to make the right decision and not follow the path of the pagans and fall into this radical change that will lead you nowhere. Remain in what you have learned from Christ.
May God's grace and peace be with you all.
