A Reality to Consider

Grandchildren are the crown of the old, And the glory of sons is their fathers.

Proverbs 17:6 (NASB)

I remember a seven-year-old boy who was so proud of his father that he wanted to be just like him when he grew up. Even as a child, he imitated him and repeated everything he said. This is a common phenomenon among children: they want to be like their mother or father. Moreover, even if we don't resemble our parents in every way, we tend to remember their actions and words in certain situations. This is what often leads us to say, "If my father were here... If my mother were here..."

Furthermore, I've noticed that grandparents are not at all harsh with their grandchildren. They don't treat them the way they treated their own children. They tolerate them in all circumstances and support them, proud of their offspring. It is in this sense that the Bible tells us that grandchildren are the crown of their aging grandparents. We will all go through these stages of life.

Now, the question you must ask yourself is this: By your attitude, are you making your children proud? If they choose to follow you as they grow up, will they become men and women of God who will bring you glory as parents and give you children who will be your crown in your old age? For they have followed your example of faith and perseverance to pass on this legacy to their own children, to be like you as they themselves desired. This is a truth you should truly ponder.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
