Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die.
John 11:25 (NIV)
During a group meeting with new converts about life in Jesus Christ, the facilitator asked them what they thought about death and if they were afraid of dying. All answered in the affirmative, except for one: a 17-year-old boy. Turning to him, the facilitator asked why he wasn't afraid of death. In a reassuring tone, he replied, "Why would I be afraid of something that has no influence on my life?" A response that speaks volumes about his faith. But then, one of the participants asked him, "So, what do you know that we don't know?"
Sometimes, it's not so much what someone says that should capture our attention and make us think, but rather the motivation behind it. The young man's answer was imbued with an unwavering confidence that the other members of the group lacked. Through his faith, he rejoiced in knowing that, through His resurrection, Christ had conquered death. This 17-year-old had read in the Bible that Jesus said He was the resurrection and the life. This was what he knew, and what others did not.
This answer should also reassure you, for it is very important for those who believe in Jesus Christ with all their heart. We know that through His death on the cross, His resurrection, and His glorious power, you who believe, your body will be transformed just as He Himself was, to enter into the presence of God after your physical death. If you have this conviction, take heart! Like this young man, you have no fear of death, for on the last day, like Christ, you will emerge victorious from its grasp.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
