O taste and see that the Lord is good! Happy is the man who takes refuge in him!
Psalm 34:8 (RSV)
After spending a month in the hospital with little hope of survival, a man in his sixties went to a public square to celebrate his recovery from a heart condition that had nearly cost him his life. An elderly person suffering from the same ailment approached him and asked how he had recovered. He praised the cardiologist who had shown such patience during his hospitalization and extolled the virtues of the hospital where he had been treated, claiming it was the best facility for receiving the necessary care.
Just as this man couldn't help but praise the hospital that had sheltered him for a month and the doctor who had treated him, the author of this psalm had every reason to praise the Lord for His mighty works. He didn't merely praise and exalt Him; he also invited all those who had not yet experienced God's grace to come and taste and see for themselves how good the Lord is. He is a God of forgiveness, compassion, and refuge.
Finding refuge in God means being protected and cared for throughout your life. Nothing will be able to stop you from moving forward, for when you trust in God and submit to His will, He guides you and protects you from all of life's difficulties. He will accomplish His plan for your life. You may not understand the paths He takes with you, but do not worry. Be certain of one thing: when He offers refuge, He also provides for your needs and transforms your life.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
