I will praise You with an upright heart as I learn Your righteous laws.
Psalm 119:7 (NIV)
Accepting Jesus is one thing, walking in His ways is another. Many Christians define the Christian life as a decision that will change their destiny, without considering that this change involves a lifestyle worthy of God's calling in their lives. No Christian can please God without knowing and obeying His precepts. It is by knowing and practicing the Word of God that the believer can truly live according to the desires of God's heart.
When we study the Word of God, it instructs us in a way that reveals our faults and spiritual weaknesses. This gives us reasons to serve God with reverence. The more you know God through His Word, the more the desires of your heart will align with His will. It is at this point in your life that your praise will be pleasing to Him, for your heart will proclaim His mighty works according to His righteousness.
Anyone who neglects this aspect of their life will never be able to open their mouth to praise God with a sincere heart, because deep down, they know they are not walking in God's ways. If, at some point in your life, you made the decision to welcome Jesus into your heart, it is now time to make another decision: to live according to God's law. It is a righteous law that reveals our sinful state and teaches us how to be freed from it forever. Just as God declared you righteous, He has also given you a righteous law to help you walk in righteousness.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
