Everyone who remains in Him does not sin; everyone who sins has not seen Him or known Him.
1 John 3:6 (HCSB)
When a child commits a fault for the first time, the reaction of his parents is always to correct him with tenderness and love. Even if they want to discipline him severely, they first try to understand him, to exhort him and to warn him so that he does not do it again. But, if despite their exhortation and warning, he persists, they will not hesitate to punish him because his attitude is their shame. They will always tend to say that they do not recognize their child.
When Paul speaks here of the one who sins, he is not referring to a person who has sinned once and repented. Rather, he is addressing the believer who continually repeats the same sin even after confessing it to God. Such a person does not have the fear of God within him. Although God will always forgive you your sins, what His heart desires is for you to avoid developing a habit of sinning. The Christian who sins constantly does not give glory to God.
Knowing that you are a sinner by nature, God will not be harsh with you because of your sins, because in Jesus Christ, He has granted you His forgiveness. However, He will not spare you the consequences of your sins. He has given you the Holy Spirit to help you and convict you of your sins. This is why Paul says that he who abides in Him, through the Holy Spirit, does not sin. Always remember that God goes further than forgiveness, He wants to see you live a sanctified and purified life in His Son.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
