A Step with Christ

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person,

and they with Me.

Revelation 3:20 (NIV)

It is not always easy to make a sensible decision based solely on emotion, or on the strength of a vague and unfounded promise made by another. When we make a decision based on emotion, we run the risk of wanting to turn back. When we make a decision based on someone else’s promise, we risk regretting it—for, in either case, we cannot know what the future holds. Yet, if we could foresee the outcome—if we knew exactly what awaited us—even if we were 90% certain that failure was inevitable, we would not hesitate to make that decision.

There is a decision to be made today. Each of us has found ourselves, at some point—or perhaps still finds ourselves—facing this momentous decision: that of taking a step of faith with Christ. Many still hesitate because they feel they are not ready; others believe they still have a few earthly pleasures to savor before taking the plunge; still others assume they have all the time in the world ahead of them. But they all forget that Christ is already standing at the door, waiting for them to open it and let Him into their lives. They have had ample time to reflect on the future that this decision entails. They know that with Christ, there are no empty promises. And yet, they still manage to find unfounded reasons to refrain from taking this step.

To you, reading this message at this very moment: I do not know whether you have already taken your first step with Christ, or if you are still standing at the crossroads of decision. Whatever your situation, I wish to remind you that if Christ has extended His hand to you, it is because you matter infinitely to Him. His promises offer not merely the dream of a better life here on earth, but the promise of eternity in His presence. He does not expect an impulsive or purely emotional decision from you; that is why He remains behind the door, waiting patiently for you. He grants you a time for reflection—time to welcome His call and to place your trust in the step you are about to take. That is why I tell you: taking a step with Christ will never be a misstep. You may stumble from time to time, but believe me: Christ will never fail you.

May the grace and peace of God be with you.
