A Useful Instrument

Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God.
2 Corinthians 3:5 (ESV)
The error we all tend to make is believing that we can help God fulfill His plans. We think we are strong or intelligent enough to assist Him in His task. When we act in this way, we commit far more errors than if we simply contented ourselves with carrying out our own projects. God does not need our help, even if He uses us from time to time to accomplish His purposes. In doing so, He completely strips us of our own strength, showing us that it is neither our abilities nor our intellect that are at work, but He alone—so that He may manifest His Glory.
Our abilities, our intellect, and our talents come from God to help us navigate this earthly life. Some, out of ignorance, go so far as to attempt to impress God, forgetting that it is He who gave them everything they need to provide for their necessities. God allows them to fail miserably; for if He let us use our talents to help Him, we would eventually come to believe that He cannot do much for us on His own. This would inevitably lead us to begin viewing ourselves—we, too—as little gods.
Some national leaders believe themselves capable and powerful enough to make decisions in God's stead. Sooner or later, they will fall into their own trap. You may possess superb talents; you may be well-organized and accustomed to succeeding in everything you undertake; yet this does not mean you are qualified to take charge of God's tasks. When He chooses to use you, it is not your abilities that interest Him, but rather your willingness and your submission to His will. Be a useful instrument in God's hands; do not seek to be the decision-maker.
May God's grace and peace be with you.
