An Act of Betrayal

After He said these things, Jesus became visibly upset, and then He told them why. “One of you is going to betray Me.”

John 13:21(THE MESSAGE)

One of the hardest blows a person can suffer is betrayal by a close friend—someone in whom you had placed absolute trust. This shock is all the more painful because it comes unexpectedly, precisely because you had given your complete trust to the person who betrayed you. Imagine trusting someone enough to confide a very intimate aspect of your life—something so close to your heart that you had shared it only out of necessity. Yet, that person—without the slightest hesitation—betrays you for nothing, all while being fully aware of the immense pain they are about to inflict upon you.

Now, put yourself in Jesus's shoes. Think of someone with whom you spent three years—someone who heard your teachings, witnessed your miracles, and knew exactly who you were—but who betrayed you for thirty pieces of silver, fully aware of the consequences. You might tell yourself that you would be furious with such a person and would reject them. But what if I told you that you are no different from Judas? You do exactly the same thing to Jesus every time you disobey His word. He told us that we are His disciples if we keep His commandments. He gave Himself for you and bore the burden of your sins on the cross; yet, you do not keep His commandments.

Every time you disobey God's word and let yourself be drawn in by the desires of the world, you commit an act of betrayal. It is as if you were handing Jesus over to His enemies. The only difference between you and Judas is that he acted for money, whereas you act to satisfy your flesh. All you gain from your betrayal is pleasure. We all commit an act of betrayal at some point. But instead of being a Judas who chose death over repentance, choose to follow Peter's example by confessing your fault. Jesus did not reject Judas; it was Judas who disqualified himself. The Cross has atoned for your act of betrayal; therefore, restore your relationship with God by humbling yourself and confessing your betrayal.

May the grace and peace of God be with you.
