An Edifying Testimony

I know your works. Because you have limited strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name, look, I have placed before you an open door that no one is able to close.

Revelation 3:8 (HCSB)

The first question I asked myself when I saw and heard a man of God talk about his experiences with God and his faith was: "What must I do to be like him?" Being spiritually immature and not knowing the answer, I rephrased it: "What did he do to be so spiritually strong and have such faith?" Having heard him talk about all he had accomplished, I then made a habit of attending prayer meetings and actively engaging in ministry.

Although I devoted myself entirely to this goal, I didn't notice any spiritual change. I was still the same, with the same desire to grow and be like this man of God. Sometimes I even got angry because I couldn't have personal experiences with God. However, years later, I realized that I was speaking about God differently; I testified of what He had done for me with the same authority that this man did, but I didn't see myself as a man of God with a high spiritual level and powerful faith.

This is what helped me understand the depth of this verse. Those who grow in faith and in a personal relationship with God know they are drawing closer to God, but they don't know to what extent. All that matters to them is the Word of God, which they give special importance to in their lives. Life's situations don't frighten them because they know God is in control. If you feel weak in faith, have no fear, for God sees you; He doesn't see your weakness, but your commitment to His Word and your desire to serve Him faithfully. Therefore, He will give you a glorious testimony for the edification of others.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
