By these he has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire.
2 Peter 1:4 (CSB)
When I was a child, my mother always made me conditional promises, especially when she wanted me to eat. With my childish mind, I couldn't evaluate or analyze her promises to understand that it was all just to achieve her goal. But as I grew older, I began to understand her ploy: (1) she didn't always keep her promises, and (2) there was always a condition that had to be met for a promise to be kept.
I understood her trick, but as a child, I didn't dare tell her she was lying to me. However, I was sometimes satisfied when she kept her promises. Unlike us, when God makes promises, He always keeps them. This proves that He cannot fail to keep what He says. When God makes demands on us to keep His promises to us, He always gives us the means to fulfill them. While He promises us a portion of His divine nature, He has given us the Holy Spirit to help us walk in His ways and prepare us.
Most importantly, God always gives us what He promises, so that there is no confusion in our hope. In verses 2 and 3, Peter reveals the depth of God's love when he states that He has multiplied His grace and peace in our lives. God doesn't give them to us in part; He has poured them out in abundance to enable us to live according to His will. Moreover, this enables us to flee the corruption and greed that poison the world. God's promise is unwavering, so place your hope in Him.
May God's grace and peace be with you all.
