Anchor Yourself in Christ

I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being.

Ephesians 3:16 (NIV)

When we come to Jesus, most of us do not know where to start. Although some perceive a change within themselves and desire to grow in the knowledge of God in order to lead a sanctified life, they wonder about the demands of this new life in Christ. Others, however—despite having heard the call to salvation—are not truly concerned with the requirements of this life; they are content simply to join the ranks of Christians without going any further. Throughout his writings, Paul encourages us to live out the fullness of Christ in our lives.

The person who, after accepting Christ, continues to live according to the Spirit of Christ experiences the newness of life that salvation offers. They become rooted in spiritual realities, grow in faith, and influence the lives of those around them. Often, they are unaware of this impact, yet their new way of living sparks curiosity in others. Even the most daunting problems do not frighten them, for they know that Christ will be with them until the end. What causes some people to abandon their faith along the way is the expectation that their lives will improve in both material and spiritual terms.

I remember years ago when our landlord gave us a month to move out—the very same week I lost my job. Everything seemed to be in turmoil; I could not afford to rent a new place. I had to turn to my parents and move in with them until I could get back on my feet. I felt as though the world was collapsing beneath me, yet my faith remained unshaken during the six months I spent looking for work so I could leave my parents' home. When we are anchored in Christ and living in Him, life’s circumstances may force us to pause, but our spiritual life continues to rise because we have the assurance that Christ is in control of everything. Do not abandon your faith in Christ because of circumstances; instead, bring them to Him, and He will guide you through the storm.

May the grace and peace of God be with you.
