At God's Pace

And the angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.”

1 Kings 19:7 (NKJV)

During an evangelism class, I was teaching the practical method for sharing the Gospel. A student remarked that the practical exercises in class weren't enough, that we needed to go out into the field and do it for real. He felt that all the students already knew each other and understood what we were doing. He believed that only people's reactions would tell us whether the method was effective or not. So the class decided to dedicate a day to door-to-door evangelism.

The young student hadn't prepared anything for this day, as we were going to be walking a lot during the practical exercise. After three hours of walking and talking to people, he was exhausted and couldn't continue. During the break, he realized that his request had been a mistake and that he wasn't ready for street evangelism. He understood that the course was designed to prepare them to talk to people, not to do door-to-door evangelism. I encouraged him to eat something before continuing. This is how God works with us when we make a wrong decision.

When God guides us and prepares us for something, if we try to go too fast, we act or make decisions contrary to His will. At some point, we feel tired because we can no longer move forward. God gives us time to understand our mistakes before comforting us and encouraging us to continue, because He knows that we will never succeed without Him. If what you are doing is what God has asked you to do, you will never feel tired, because He will always be there to accompany you. But if you act to please Him according to your own will, you will fail along the way. Move at God's pace.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
