Avoid Quarrels

As charcoal for embers and wood for fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife.

Proverbs 26:21 (HCSB)

We often meet people who like to play with fire, as they say. They stop at nothing. As soon as they find an opportunity that works to their advantage and satisfies their desires, they take advantage of it to pick a fight without even thinking about the consequences. They use provocative words and expressions to make people angry for their gratification.

Anyone can easily fall into their game if they are not careful or do not have the self-control necessary to avoid becoming a victim of the manipulation of these quarrelsome men. This verse gives us this warning, using the example of wood and coal. A way of telling us that it would always be better to avoid the company of this type of person.

God knows that it is sometimes difficult for us not to get angry when someone touches our sore spot, which is why, through Paul, He tells us in Ephesians 4:26 not to sin if we get angry. He goes even further by asking us not to sleep with our anger. It is not a problem or a sin if you decide to keep your distance from quarrelsome people because, as the verse says, as much as it depends on you be at peace with all men.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
