But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Acts 1:8 (NIV)
Just before Jesus went into heaven, he gave these final instructions to His disciples. He told them that they should wait for the promised Holy Spirit and then go to the ends of the earth to proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom.
When we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit also comes and lives in us. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can be witnesses of Christ. We are called to witness to the Gospel in our immediate environment. We don't have to be in a certain place to talk about Jesus and be a witness to Him. We can show others the love of Jesus in our own homes and in our office, to our colleagues. We can be a witness wherever we go.
Today you and I are witnesses and it is the Holy Spirit who gives us the power, the strength, the boldness, the ability and the confidence to be witnesses for Jesus. You cannot do it on your own, so let us ask the Holy Spirit to guide us to proclaim the glorious gospel of Christ - in His power - to whomever God puts in our path.
