Don't Wait For Someone to Tell You

This is what the Lord says to Israel: “Seek me and live."

Amos 5:4 (NIV)

Most people perceive their lives as they live them. They don't consider that beyond their limitations, God watches over them and protects them from harm. They don't question the reasons for the events that happen to them, but when they witness them, they blame those around them or, if they acknowledge God's place in their lives, they place the responsibility on Him. Although they know God exists, they will never turn to Him to serve and worship Him, but they will hold Him responsible for their misfortunes.

This is an undeniable reality today. But the most striking aspect of this reality is that many who call themselves Christians adopt the same attitude. They go to church, they pray, and they study the Bible, but it remains superficial; their hearts do not seek God. Their service to God did not stem from the fear of God, but from a desire to accomplish something. This is precisely what the people of Israel did; they did not seek God with all their heart, but they fulfilled the duties that guaranteed them peace with Him. By doing so, they escaped divine wrath. Their fear was more a fear of death than a deep respect for God.

God desires that you seek Him with all your heart. This does not simply mean reading the Bible to learn about His works, but rather studying His Word to know Him, understand His character, His desires, and His will. The Bible itself tells us that God reveals Himself to those who seek Him. This allows us to understand that by seeking God, He will find you. Sometimes, God allows us to go through trials because He knows that these are the moments that will humble us enough to turn to Him. Do not wait to be told to seek God; Do it yourself, and He will be pleased to find you.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
