Come And Worship Your God

Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

Psalm 95:6 (HCSB)

You are probably among those who define worship as the performance of moving songs that arouse strong spiritual emotions within us. If, through their songs, the worshipper fails to draw you into this dimension, for you, it is not true worship according to God's own heart. Know that true worship is not a momentary action; rather, it is a way of life that honors God. Everything that honors God is a form of worship.

By using the word "Come" in this context, the psalmist is addressing more of an exhortation to worship than an invitation. He is not inviting or encouraging, but exhorting, calling the people to bow before God. The idea of bowing the knees suggests reverence for the person of God rather than fear of punishment. It is this reverence that leads to worship. A true Christian does not need to be pressured to bow down and worship God. He voluntarily leads a life that honors and glorifies his God.

If you wonder how to worship God when you are unworthy of such a privilege, know that He knows better than you that you will never be worthy of it on your own. That is why He shed the blood of His Son on the cross for the forgiveness of your sins, to make you worthy of Him. Open your heart to Christ, confess your sins, and come, bow down and humble yourself before God in a spirit of worship, for He is your Creator and Savior.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
