For this is God, Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide Even to death.
Psalm 48:14 (NKJV)
How many of you, in the midst of your incessant anxiety, would go so far as to say like David: "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me?" This is a phrase we like to use when we are afraid of our situation, but when it comes to having this assurance and trusting God completely, we recoil and begin to question His promises. It wasn't when things were going well for him that David said he would have no fear. It was in the face of attacks from his enemies, especially Saul.
What led David to have this assurance and to affirm it without hesitation? I would say one reason is that he knew the God he would be and lived in perfect relationship with Him, to the point of making His Word the center of his life. In fact, he even said to God, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." God hadn't given him a secret for serving Him; David simply knew that God would always be with him, and he trusted Him.
This promise from God to always accompany us and care for us isn't reserved for a small group of believers. It is a promise addressed to all those who place their faith in Jesus Christ, His Son. Just like David, God is with you; He will never let you down. He will guide you step by step on the path of life. Let me repeat it once again: God didn't give David a secret on how to serve Him. David knew God and drew close to Him. If there was a secret, it was this: David had seized God's promise and trusted in Him.
May God's grace and peace be with you all.
