Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules.
Colossians 2:20 (NIV)
After living for ten years in a large commercial city, Simson and his family moved to a small town with a different culture, customs, and way of life. A town so small that almost everyone knew each other. However, Simson refused to adapt to his new life and surroundings. He persisted in wanting to lead the same life as before, as if he still lived in the big city. His stubbornness caused problems for his family.
This small town didn't offer him everything he hoped for; he was bored. He couldn't enjoy all the privileges of the big city. His new life became a burden instead of a way to make a fresh start and settle down with his family. Although somewhat different, Simson's situation reflects the reality of many new believers. They understood the importance of accepting Jesus as their Savior, but they continued to want to live the life they had led before their conversion.
By coming to Christ, we are no longer under the influence of the world and its rules. We live for Christ. The Colossians received the gospel of salvation, but they wanted to continue living under the law and according to human principles. In Christ, you are freed from the law of human conditions and social principles. As long as you walk according to God's Word, you no longer have to obey human requirements. You are now children of God in Christ Jesus, living in accordance with His will.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
