As Jesus went from there, He saw a man called Matthew. Matthew was sitting at his work gathering taxes. Jesus said to him, “Follow Me.” Matthew got up and followed Jesus.
Matthew 9:9 (NLV)
We have all felt at some point in our lives this urgent need to accept Jesus as our personal savior. Most often it is after hearing a message that has enlightened our minds about God’s grace and salvation in Jesus Christ. According to the Bible, this is the moment when the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins and God’s judgment.
Your choice to follow Jesus is a gift from God who initiated the plan of salvation to save us from the condemnation of sin. Jesus told His disciples that they did not choose Him, but He chose them. He even gave them the reason why He chose them, so that they would bear fruit that would last. This is exactly what happened with Matthew. As a tax collector, Matthew was not at all honest in his business dealings. Which made him a sinner.
In his life of sin, Jesus called him to follow Him. Aware of his condition, Matthew did not hesitate for a single moment to follow Jesus. Today, this same message dating back more than 2000 years is also addressed to us. From the depths of your sins, Jesus calls you to follow Him without taking into account your condition. This is your moment, follow Matthew's example, do not ask questions, simply follow Jesus because there is your salvation. God sent Him expressly for you, receive Him today in your heart.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
