Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude.
Acts 2:46 (HCSB)
When I was in high school, no matter how smart a student was, they had to be part of a class work group to be recognized as such. The goal was not to prove their abilities or skills to others, but rather to use their intelligence to help the less intelligent better understand difficult courses so that all could succeed together. The students loved it so much that they always looked forward to getting together on the weekends.
I believe the first century church had this same desire to come together to worship the Lord, break bread, and rejoice together. The passage tells us that they met every day; they did not have a special day to meet like we do. This shows how much this time spent together in prayer, praise, and meditation on the Word was beneficial to them. Of course, they had other responsibilities, but their first priority was to gather in the house of God to worship Him together.
This is the same example we should follow today: that of wanting to be in the presence of other believers to worship God, study the Word, pray, and eat together. It is a great joy to commune together as brothers and sisters in the faith, for this will always contribute to our spiritual progress and strengthen unity in the Church.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
