He Won’t Let You Down

Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.

Matthew 8:23-24 (NKJV)

After buckling up his 3-year-old son in the back seat of his car, the father tells his child that he is going to take him somewhere as a surprise. The child happily agrees to follow his father wherever he takes him without question. As his father was driving, another driver lost control of his car and hit the front of his father’s car, forcing him to swerve quickly to avoid the accident. He could hear his son screaming from the back of the car.

After stopping immediately, worried about his son, the father turned around to see if everything was okay, he sees his son smiling and shouting, “My daddy avoided the other guy, that’s my daddy.” The little guy had absolute trust in his father. The disciples had that same trust in Jesus to follow Him. Notice what verse 23 tells us: “He got into the boat, and the disciples followed Him.” They didn’t ask Him where He was going or why He was getting into the boat, they just followed Him without knowing what was going to happen. However, their attitude was about to change.

The next verse tells us about the danger that awaited them on the sea. There was a storm, the waves covered the boat while Jesus was sleeping. This is a good example of the Christian life. Accepting Jesus Christ as Savior is like getting into a boat with Him without knowing where He is going to take us. When we see the danger, we panic and start calling out to Him without knowing that He already has the solution. Like the little boy who shouted for joy because his father had saved him, we must also have the assurance that Jesus will guide us through the storms that await us. Don’t worry, even if you see Him sleeping in the midst of your difficulties, He will not let you down.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
