And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses.
Colossians 2:13 (NKJV)
Imagine you've rear-ended someone's car, someone whose social status you don't know. You're at fault, the person calls the police to file a report, and the police officer declares you guilty. Imagine this isn't the first time this has happened to you, and you have several unpaid traffic tickets. Not only does your insurance have to cover the damages, but you're also summoned to court. You know that if you don't show up, you risk having to pay a colossal sum of money that you don't have, or even going to jail.
Imagine that on the day of your court appearance, you walk into the courtroom not knowing what to say to defend yourself, and who do you see sitting there to judge you? It's the very man whose car you damaged. Anyone in this situation would be terrified. I often put myself in your shoes and always imagine a positive outcome to what's about to happen. You and I find ourselves in this situation every day without paying attention to the consequences that await us. But, unfortunately, this isn't mere imagination; it's reality.
This is the reality of our relationship with God. He created us for His glory, and He wants us to be holy. Yet, we sin every day without realizing that we are accumulating offenses that will be held against us later, when we have to appear before Him. The judge we will face on Judgment Day is God Himself, against whom we have sinned. The good news is that He is ready to forgive our sins and restore our lives. In real life, we would have to pay the price, but with God, Jesus paid it for us. In Him, you have peace with God. What you should imagine now is the glory that awaits you on the last day, because your sins can no longer condemn you.
May the grace of God be with you all.
