Jesus Would Have Done It

Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.

1 Corinthians 14:20 (NKJV)

As Christians, we have a responsibility to support one another, no matter the situation. When we see another believer struggling with sin or going astray, our duty is to help and guide them according to the Bible in order to restore them or lead them to repentance. Judging another believer and blaming them for their faults is an indirect way of pushing them to leave the Church. This is not the teaching Jesus gave us.

When Paul says that we should not be like children in judging others, he implies that children lack the ability to think like adults; they see and speak without thinking about what might cause others to act in ways they dislike. They do not reason like we do. Do not judge what you do not understand. It is better to ask questions and seek to understand before judging, because a single careless word can ruin another's reputation.

Even without realizing it, we can sometimes harm those around us through our rash judgments. This is a form of wickedness. However, just as a little child never seeks to harm those he loves, be like a child and show them love and affection. Don't focus on your brother's mistake, but see his situation as a sign of weakness that you have a responsibility to help him overcome. This is what Jesus would have done.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
